The Simons EZ Test Kit is designed to test for the presence of secondary amines in a sample. It is particularly useful for distinguishing between substances such as PMMA and PMA, MDMA and MDA, or methamphetamine and amphetamine, and is also a strong option for identifying mephedrone and other secondary amines. Rather than testing for purity or quantity, the kit is intended to show whether a secondary amine is present.
The test uses Simons reagent, a mixture of water, acetaldehyde, sodium nitroprusside, and sodium carbonate, to produce a rapid royal blue reaction when secondary amines are detected. Substances such as MDMA, methamphetamine, PMMA, and mephedrone will produce this reaction, while PMA, MDA, MDPV, amphetamine, caffeine, and many other substances will show no reaction. This makes the kit especially useful where closely related substances need to be distinguished from one another.
Because the Simons EZ Test Kit is focused specifically on secondary amines, it works best as a targeted identification tool rather than a broad-spectrum test. Its main value lies in helping to separate substances that may otherwise appear similar in use or presentation, with the presence or absence of the characteristic royal blue result providing a clear visual indication.
